Salina is a recently established Danish organization with close ties to Senhar Sagar, a local NGO in Mumbai, India. Our shared goal is to assist the general living conditions of the sexworkers of Mumbai. Snehar Sagar holds extensive experience and thorough knowledge within the field of supporting sexworkers, yet lacks a financial boost to further develop their work. Salina is collaborating with Snehar Sagar in order to meet these goals. Snehar Sagar is a small NGO, but has an extensive impact on the lives of sexworkers and their families in the slums of Mumbai. Snehar Sagar is currently running a single support centre, and it is the aim of Salina to collect donations to financially secure the opening and daily operations of yet another centre in Thurbe; a district of Mumbai with large numbers of sexworkers. Senhar Sagar means Love and Compassion in Hindi.
The centre will function as a counseling community-based centre for women and children related to prostitution. Here, they will be offered daily meals, lessons in tailor work, counseling in matters of the heart, as well as general guidance.
The centre will also help the women with physical problems by prescribing medicine or directing them to hospital care. During mornings, the centre offer care of minor children, while older children can attend after- school activities and receive homework assistance. The centre is intended to be a playful, safe haven for children of sexworkers.
